MT 2121The MT2021 is a part of the range of pocket size testers specifically designed aiding the installation, commissioning and fault finding on high speed circuits. The product incorporates many features that allow a user to quickly identify operational problems.

o Speed –up to 2.048Mb
o Clock Frequency measurement
o BERT (PRP15) generator / checker
o Internal and External Timing options
o Clock Phasing error detection
o Data inversion detection
o LCD display – frequency / error counts
o Battery powered -typically 16 hours
o Socket for external power feed

When plugged into an X21 interface the unit can measure the clock frequency to an accuracy of 0.5KHz up to a frequency of 2048KHz.
For systems where an external clock is required, the MT2021 can provide a selection of clock speeds.

The unit incorporates a standard PRP15 test pattern generator and checker and is down line compatible with the MT2048 G.703/G.704 diagnostic test set. In this mode the unit can detect and display transmission errors but also it is capable of identifying wiring and system problems. Phasing errors due to the inversion of the clock signals with respect to the data are identified by the MT2021 as is the receipt of an inverted PRP15 test pattern.

To aid in identifying transmission problems, the MT2021 can be set to transmit either continuous 1 or 0 data bits. Input impedance can be set either to high impedance (Hi-Z) or standard termination impedance of 110?. The Hi-Z mode allows the MT2021 to be used in monitoring mode.

Switches

Power: Off/On
Input: Hi-Z or 110?
Control: Sets condition of pins 3-10 to either an On or Off condition
Transmit:Continuous 1’s or 0’s PRP15 test pattern-inverted as per ITU recommendation for 2.048Mb PCM systems PRP15 ( 215-1 )
Inject Errors: Single errors /2 errors per sec
Error Count / Reset / Clock Speed: Sets the display options for the LCD display Reset also resets the lost synch indicator
Set Speed: Selects the appropriate clock speed to be output by the tester
Speeds(kbps): 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024 and 2048
DCE/Tester: sets the clock source to be used
Kbps / n?64k: allows measured frequency to be divided by 64K to get channel multiple

LEDs
Lo Battery(flashing): ? 30 mins power remaining
Ind: displays the status of the indicate signal ( pins 5 – 12 ), Red = Off, Green = ON
Data: Red-‘1’, Green-‘0’
PRP sync: Green-OK, Red –inverted data
Lost: indicates a loss of synchronisation has occurred during a test cycle-which may result in large error bursts.
DCE: indicates status of clock signals
Green – Clock phasing correct
Red – Clock phasing out of tolerance / inverted

LCD Display
Inactive display shows a ‘-‘ sign
BERT test running: alternating ‘-‘ and ‘:’ signs
Overflow indicated by flashing most sig. ‘1’
Error Display range 0000 to 9999
Frequency display range: 1kHz – 2048kHz (accuracy: 0.5kHz)
