Network Taps - Features Explained

 

Our Copper and/or fiber Taps include a wealth of features  - some functions are essential, some are unique. Depending on the model, you will find the symbols on each TAP within our portfolio:

 

 

Copper Features
Linkspeed 10/100 Mbit UTP
LinkSpeed supported :
The TAP operates at 10/100 Mbit UTP Networks (TAP in, TAP out), the Monitor ports as well.
Linkspeed 10/100/1000 Mbit UTP   LinkSpeed supported :
The TAP operate at 10/100/1000 Mbit UTP Networks (TAP in, TAP out), the Monitor ports as well.
 
LED Indicators for Speed and Activity & Power   Two LEDS indicate Activity in 10Mb and Link in 100Mb speed. Activity LED A lights up when a signal is received at port A, LED B for a signal received at port B.
Two LEDs show the presence of power.
Power over Ethernet (802.3af) and VoIP compliant  Power over Ethernet (802.3af) and VoIP compliant   The TAP is 802.3af compliant and forwards IEEE 802.3af power (PoE) between the connected network devices. Aside regular datatraffic monitoring this functionality ensures the suitability of ProfiTAP Copper TAPs on VoIP Networks as well.
Redundancy Power via 2nd Powersupply   Using redundant powering guarantees a maximum uptime off the tap/monitor ports. A second Powersupply (same as first) is required and provides redundant power. Depending on model, the external power can be chained as each power has 2 input sockets at the back of the TAP. The two correponding LEDs show the presence of power.
Redundanct Power with integrated/included Powersupply   Models do have a second powersupply built in (19" units) or a second external powersupply is included by default.

galvanic separation of monitorports   The TAP ports are galvanic separated from the Network and protects in such way your monitoring equipment from PoE and Ground Potential Differences and is hereby fully 802.3af & VoIP compliant, i.e while connected to powered voice terminals.
Industrial Power DC 20-30V   Industrial Power Connector - on single TP this is the alternate power source instead of DC Powersupplies, on 19" others this is a second or first option to supply power to the device.
Industrial Rail Clip included   Industrial Rail Mount Clip - mostly offered on single TAPs this is the alternate mounting with a clip, fitting on Industry (DIN) rails - in combination with DC 20-30V feature an optimal solution for Industrial Ethernet usage.
Easy Stats Statistic Tool for C1AP series  

This ProfiTAP runs an application called Easy Stats at the connected computer for gathering statistical information about the monitored link without using analyser software.

SetUp
   This ProfiTAP runs an application called UserSetUp at the connected computer for setting up several features provided.

MAC/IP Filter for C1AP series  

This ProfiTAP can do, closed to hardware level, filtering right in the TAP. You may set exclusive or inclusive filters based on MAC or IP to reduce or extract the datastream for monitoring at the very first stage down on the link.

5nS Timestamp feature for C1AP series  

This ProfiTAP can do on demand a more precise timing for the packets being captured with ProfiTAP. More information

Fiber Features
1G Fiber Link Speed   LinkSpeed supported :
The TAP is available for 1G / 10G / ATM Fiberspeed
(TAP in, TAP out), the Monitor ports as well.

SC Connectors LC Connectors  

All connectors are either SC or LC style - high quality (low loss) Zirconia socket.

 
SingleMode Fibertype MultiMode Fibertype   All TAPs as indicated are available in either SingleMode and/or Multimode 50 micro or 62,5 micro diameter.
Split Ratios  

In many cases a splitratio of 50:50 and 70:30 is sufficient for either monitoring and a constantly errorfree link.

There are situations which require other splits like 60:40 or less at 80:20 or 90:10. Be very careful for achieving a stable network and monitoring link.

Any result, positive or negative, does not mean to have found a common reference - the effect on one link may/will vary using same equipment on a second link.
